The measuring instrument for territorial water.
TerraNava is an open, free project that turns open, auditable data into public indicators on water, territory and society in Bolivia, for anyone who plans or studies water: municipalities, regional governments, researchers and citizens.
A Water Vulnerability Index you can audit.
At the core sits the Water Vulnerability Index (IVH v4), computed for all 343 municipalities of Bolivia, with active pilots in Peru and Paraguay. The index combines drought and climate signals, safe-water access, events recorded in DesInventar (1970–2015), social vulnerability and water storage into a single, transparent score.
Every result is traceable back to its original open source and the transformation applied — no black boxes. The methodology is checked against known historical water events; this is not an external validation (see the limits on the methodology page) and is published so that any institution can reproduce, cite and defend it.
Three ways to use the index.
Open data
The IVH and its five components for the 343 units, with sources, periods and licences (page in Spanish).
Go to the data →Methodology
The IVH v4 weighting, its checks against historical events (not a validation), the open data sources and the watershed water balance.
Read methodology →Live product
Explore a real municipal profile — IVH, its five components and the seasonal outlook — with no login required.
Open the demo →Use it, cite it, correct it.
The index, its data and its methods are open. If you find an error or need a dataset explained, write to pablo@terranava.org.
